We asked ourselves sometimes when we heard the migratory birds in some places and how they got there and where they come from. While sailing the ocean here is South-East Asia, I often see different kind of birds flying together with us where we headed. It varies from big and small birds, very common in these seagull and doves. This seagulls always on the forward of the ship and most of them when they are tired they will just land to any railings near our navigation lights. Most of them just pooped anywhere and pretty obvious it was from them because its white color.
Sometimes you can see the small one like this dove, most of them exhausted from long trip and they just land outside near the accommodation for shelter and not to be noticed by us. If they can´t fly for a few hours, we just give them some foods and water. We notice sometimes that they have a serial tag attached to their feet and it seems that they have their owner and we expected that they are racing pigeons.
One time when we pass the Visayas region of the Philippine Sea going to Taiwan, I heard my crewmates that a bat is outside and looked tired so they feed with some apple fruit. When I arrived, I saw that they fabricated a stick wood in horizontal manner for the bat to hold upside down. I thought it´s just normal bat we saw on TV like 6 inches but it was 16 inch in length and if the wings are spread, approximately 1 meter wide. I freaked out and just go back inside, the other crews locked their cabin that night maybe fear from the bat. Next morning it just disappeared, it looks like it gotten back the strength to fly again.
When we have company of birds flying with us, we treat them like our buddy travelling the world.
